And the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, “The Lord is with you, O mighty man of valor.” And Gideon said to him, “Please, my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all his wonderful deeds that our fathers recounted to us, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and given us into the hand of Midian.” And the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours and save Israel from the hand of Midian; do not I send you?” And he said to him, “Please, Lord, how can I save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.” Judges 6:12-15
What is it that qualifies a man?
All men arrive at this crossroads at some point in their life. The moment they feel the task does not fit them. This feeling is what Gideon so eloquently describes. He was, in his mind, the least likely man among the least likely group of men. We know God does not make mistakes. The angel of the Lord did approach the man God selected for this military action. At this point in the story, Israel had fallen prey to sinful ways and was seven years deep into the Midian oppression. Midian had a massive army and used it to devastate Israel. So, the people cried out.
God looked for a willing and obedient man to deliver the people. Notice God did not look for an extraordinary man of great military achievement. Don’t be the guy who writes himself off. If you’re feeling underqualified, you are most likely just the guy God wants for the job.
DO THIS TODAY: Stop thinking you are unqualified to be used by God.
