I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2

Every time I drive another person’s car, I have to realign the seat. Not only the seat, but the mirrors, the wheel, and most likely the radio station as well. It has become so instinctive that I do this automatically. I know that if the controls are lined up in a way that suits me, I am going to have an optimized driving experience. I will be able to see the road clearly and steer the car with ease. When alignment is off, I’m less confident and more clumsy. The key to success is proper alignment and the same rings true in my spiritual life.

A man’s spiritual life requires ongoing realignment. We live in a world that continually “adjusts the seat” of our faith through many lies and misdirection. This is part of the job of a man who follows Jesus Christ. Consider living the life of a disciple without proper alignment. Of course, you would experience a lack of confidence and effectiveness. If you struggle to act on your convictions and follow Jesus, start by renewing your mind. Adjusting the controls before you initiate the journey will help you properly see the road: God’s will. Persist in daily renewing your mind.
