Reckless Desire

"I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
by the gazelles or the does of the field,
that you not stir up or awaken love
until it pleases.” Song of Solomon 2:7

To be pressed, implored, or "adjured" is to give notice to something of special concern. And who does Solomon, the man of great wisdom adjure? You, O man. You, the child of the chosen kingdom. You, the "daughter of Jerusalem." And what's the focus of Solomon's concern for you? Your desires. They are like wild "gazelles" and young "does" that roam "the field." Crazed; aimless; playful; careless; approaching danger with reckless awareness of the traps that may befall you. And the danger? "Awakened pleasure," the most potent of desires known to man. Young and old have been captivated by its power and many fall victim to its traps. Heed the wisdom of Solomon today.

DO THIS: Give warning to your reckless desires.

PRAYER: God, we both know my desires get the best of me. But today may my desires find satisfaction in you, not the reckless desires of my flesh.
