Satan’s Present Rule

The Lord said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.” — Job 1:7

Here we encounter a meeting of cosmic proportions. God and Satan meet and have a divine conversation. And the subject matter is one man in particular — Job. It's clear from this divine meet-up that God rules the infinite limits of the universe, and in comparison, Satan walks the confines of the earth.

While this meeting is disturbing for some, let make sure we understand the authority of Satan in this life.

  1. Satan is a fallen angel who rebelled against God. (Luke 10:18, Isaiah 14:12-15)
  2. Satan is given the freedom to rule the present world. (Ephesians 6:12)
  3. Satan does not have authority over God-fearing believers. (1 John 3:8, James 4:7)
  4. Satan does have authority over those who believe in him. (Ephesians 2:2)
  5. Satan uses lying and deception to persuade belief in him, which gives him his power. (Genesis 3:1, John 8:44, 2 Corinthians 11:14)
  6. Satan will be in ongoing conflict with Christians until the time is complete. (Ephesians 6:11-16)
  7. Satan will be destroyed at the end of this time. (Revelation 20:10)

So this behind-the-scenes look into this divine meeting should not concern us who are believers in God. It is only a reminder of these facts.

  1. That we live in a fallen world corrupted by man's disobedience to God.
  2. That our disobedience to God gives authority to Satan.
  3. That we need a God to save us from our sin, selfishness, and Satan's control.
  4. That belief in God results in new and eternal life.
  5. That until Satan is destroyed, we must battle with his lies and deception.

So today, if you are a follower of Jesus Christ, don't be concerned about this cosmic conversation. Just get out there today and engage in the battle. Watch carefully for those lies and deceptions the enemy will throw at you and guard against them with God's truth.

ASK THIS: What common deceptions do we passively or actively embrace in our time?

DO THIS: Pray that God will reveal deception in others and you.

PRAY THIS: God, please convict me when I see deception in this life. Please also convict me when I embrace deception myself. Cleanse me of all unrighteousness.

PLAY THIS: Clean Heart.

Satan can only rule over the earth and ONLY to his followers, ignore the lies and pursue righteousness brothers.

  2. Cory B says:

Satan has been kicking my butt this last week. Hanging out with old friends. Good men, but not necessarily Godly men. Getting caught up in stories from the past and less than Christian conversations. Not standing up or speaking out which creates a shame cycle for me and causes me to distance myself from God. This is just the crack satan needs to get me to sin. Which I do and then the hamster wheel upstairs won’t stop spinning and my shame cycle of not being worthy kicks in. I’m working and praying through it, but I wish it wouldn’t happen in the first place.
