Serve Humbly
"Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you."—1 Peter 5:6
It's been said, "The ego is not your amigo." In fact, arrogance (an unhealthy expression of self-interest) may be a used drug to numb human foolishness. It's an intoxication of selfish proportions. So don't inflate the balloon of self-interest only to discover at some height it eventually pops. But don't conclude that mastery and unhealthy pride always go hand in hand—they don't. You can master a trade, skill, and process and be proud without being arrogant. It's possible. Just recognize that there are some things you can master and some things you will never master. Most importantly, you will never be The Master. So master something but serve humbly "so that at the proper time He may exalt you."
DO THIS: Master something but don't get in the way of the Master.
PRAYER: God, show me the balance of mastery and humility so that I can impact your world and play a role in your mission.
