Shamed Not
For it stands in Scripture:
“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”—1 Peter 2:6
Undoubtfully there are things you are ashamed you have done. With wrongdoings come these feelings of regret followed by strong feelings of private shame. And some people will weaponize shame to drive us into compliance. And thus, they use certain verbiage and messages to reinforce fear and incite behavior change. We have recently heard messages like this in the news, on social media, in workplaces, and maybe even at home. Maybe you recall a moment where someone used some certain language to add insult to injury. And this is the world we live in. One that rejects, fault finds, and puts to shame.
But our Heavenly Father is unlike this. He knows man's regret and does not put man to shame. Instead, he removes shame and builds something new in us and with us. And it all begins with a stone, not shame. It's the best of all stones. It's a cornerstone that is precious, chosen, square, and plumb. And with it, he's building something magnificent with us that will never be put to shame again. And to realize this, we must reject the world's shame and believe in him.
ASK THIS: Are you tired of feeling ashamed?
DO THIS: Come to a Father who does not put you to shame by believing in his Son, and let him build something new with you and in you.
PRAY THIS: God, I am ready to live shame-free. I come today exhausted by feelings that privately cause self-defeating patterns of belief. Today I believe in you, and I am ready to let you build something new in me.
