And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.—Genesis 2:25
Don't you wonder what this was like; this emotional utopia? A garden place where two people created by God lived in bliss and no understanding yet of sin and the shame that follows it. Most of us know that sin awaits this unsuspecting couple, a spiritual disease that would infect all people resulting in shame, upon shame. And while you and I know sin and shame well, and others like to remind us of it, did you know that it's possible to live beyond our shame? Did you know that our loving God rescues humanity from both sin and the shame that so easily ensnares us? So instead of dwelling on your sin and shame, commit these words to memory.
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.—Romans 8:1
DO THIS: Each time you feel ashamed today, reread Romans 8:1.
PRAY THIS: God, it's hard for me to believe you remove my sin and shame. First, forgive my unbelief. Second, help me to believe.
