Shine As Lights
Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world—Philippians 2:14-15
Can you imagine a world without grumbling or questioning? Yeah, probably not. And because this is such an improbable fantasy in a crooked and twisted world, as men, we should stand out. We should shine—in other words, we should be different. We should penetrate the darkness with something brighter, and the writer suggests these two things:
- Blameless. /ˈblāmləs/ innocent of wrongdoing.
- Innocent. /ˈinəsənt/ not responsible for or directly involved in an event yet suffering its consequences.
We are men called to be free of blemish since our identity is now shaped and informed by God himself. So today, as his representative, remember you are his child. And as God's child, represent and reflect his light.
DO THIS: When you see darkness, be light instead.
PRAY THIS: God, draw me to your light today when I see darkness. Give me words, attitudes, and actions that shine and give attention to your great name.
