SPIRITUAL CONDITION

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Psalm 139:23-24

Entropy is defined as the gradual decline into disorder. It is a process of breaking down, much like the oil in your vehicle. If you go well past the recommended limits of the oil in your vehicle, the law of entropy eventually kicks in. The oil breaks down, and the engine will seize up. The same law is at work in all areas of life, including the spiritual life.

Over the years I’ve noticed clear seasons, highs and lows in my spiritual life. My heart is no stranger to the anxieties of life. Because of entropy, life tends to build upon my heart. The Psalmist is reflecting on something similar. His cry to God suggests the need to reorder his heart. There is an everlasting way that requires the leadership of God. Recognize the need to yield to God and be led by him. Be reminded by this psalm that the heart and mind of a man need to be tested and corrected by God. When life builds up, ask God to do a diagnostic of your heart.
