"Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.” —John 15:4
Abiding is your primary work. Nothing more. Just abide. As spiritual production is linked to nothing else. Your spiritual production is not tied to how much God loves you—for he loves you regardless. His love is infinite and unaffected by your obedience or disobedience. Your spiritual production is not tied to God's redemptive work—he does this without any help from you. You would only mess this up since redemption is a supernatural miracle. Your spiritual growth has nothing to do with how long you've been obedient—for length is not a show of spiritual vitality. And your spiritual growth is not about how much you know—for even the young in faith will sometimes outproduce you. Your spiritual production is linked to abiding and nothing more. The vine is not of you, and the nutrients are not of you, and the resources acting on the nutrients are not of you, which means that even the production is not really of you. But only one thing is needed—abide and let God do a great work through you and stop getting in His way.
DO THIS: Abide in Him.
PRAYER: God, I confess I get in your way far too much. Today let me abide, and I pray I will see your work in me and through me.
