STONES
As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 2:4-5
Stones were used for many different reasons throughout the history of the Jewish people. At times they were used as tablets containing God's instruction to His people. In other instances, for slaying giants. Stones marked boundaries, sealed tombs, and served as altars. Foundations and walls were made of stone. God's people, you and I included, are now swept into this beautiful word picture we find in 1 Peter. We are now, in Jesus Christ, living stones. We are chosen, precious, and part of a structure built by God.
Think with me how meaningful it is to be God's living stone. There is a great purpose in the structure of this spiritual house, and each man plays a role in its construction. One on top of another, our lives together are placed by God. We are a testimony to His glory. Handpicked, God reveals how much He values not merely our participation, but also our belonging to Him. Start moving through life like God's living stone.
DO THIS TODAY: Praise God for your role as His living stone.
