Stop Quarreling Get Truth

ENGLISH

Remind them of these things, and charge them before God not to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, and their talk will spread like gangrene.—2 Timothy 2:14-17

Given the state of our world, country, and church, there could not be a text more relevant to the present time. These issues are a reminder that time may change, but the challenges we encounter do not. Here is the list of indictment Paul levels against the present growth of disinformation:

  • Quarreling about words.
  • Ruined listeners.
  • Irreverant nonsense.
  • Ungodly attitudes.
  • And talk that spreads like a disease.

So what can we do to "stop the spread" of this deceptive disease?

As stated, we need only "truth" that is "rightly handled."

You see, just like Paul and Timothy, Christians are truth seekers. We are people who seek the truth, stand on the truth, and share the truth. We believe truth is only found outside of fallen humanity. We believe truth must be revealed to us and our corrupt hearts, minds, and motives. We believe that only God reveals this truth which he disclosed through his perfect son Jesus Christ. We believe Jesus is the only way, truth, and life, and his message is truthful. Thus we are people who seek Jesus. We are redeemed by his truth, guided by his truth, and share his truth. And we must rightly handle his truth because what we say and how we say it represents God and impacts the eternal destiny of those around us.

So your call to action today is to get out there and share His Truth, not your truth. And since it does not belong to you, handle it with care.

ASK THIS: What truth are you ignoring that you need to believe and share today? (Share it in the comments below)

DO THIS: Don't just hear God's truth; act on it.

PRAY THIS: God, may your truth win out in this world and my divided heart. May I be a little quicker to hear and act on your truth today. And allow me to share the truth I embrace with someone else.

I’m convicted to be brave and share the truth more boldly in my sphere of influence. There is such blindness in all of us – poor thinking & being guided by feelings instead of TRUTH. May I have some influence to help people remove the scales from their eyes and be guided by truth instead of feelings.
