Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:7-9

Some of man’s greatest opponents have been weariness, fear, and discouragement. The story of the Israelite nation traces a response to these three stalwarts. An entire generation wandered around and died off in the wilderness because ten of the twelve spies were afraid of those inhabiting the promise land. God promised victory, yet misplaced fear directed otherwise. Weariness and discouragement follow this misplaced fear. All three of these distract God’s men from God’s purpose, draining strength and courage. How does a man overcome?

The solution can only be resolved through a man’s faith in God.

God speaks plainly to Joshua. Everything He had said to Moses did not change and applied just the same to Joshua. This law, God’s direction, and His Word are the path to success. Notice how the continual reminder of God’s Word is important to stay in tune with God. All of these are a recipe for strength and courage. A man who knows God and His way is a man who displays strength and courage.

DO THIS TODAY: Write out Joshua 1:9 and put it someplace you will see it often.
