“They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover. When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”

What does strong desire look like in the life of Jesus?

In the last supper, we see Jesus as a man with an intense desire. Jesus carefully instructed His disciples to prepare this meal. At that hour they reclined and together share a powerful moment. Jesus uses both “eagerly” and “desired” to explain His longing to share this with them.

It was His last supper with mission fulfillment on the horizon. But what does this moment say about His deep longing? Men long for all sorts of thing in this life. Think deeply about what Jesus anticipated. He saw the fulfillment of His mission. This longing moved Jesus, and He embraced the tragedy of the cross. The Kingdom of God shaped Jesus’ desires. The hope of the coming Kingdom must guide the man that follows Christ.

Do this today: Ask God to give you a vision of His Kingdom that shapes your desires.
