“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” Matthew 7:24-27

Every man builds a foundation.

A few years ago I built a shed in the backyard. I’m both a novice builder and an activator, so I usually cut first and measure second. After eyeing up the plot of ground where the building was to go, I deemed it to be acceptable. Eight hours later I framed and assembled our small garden shed. As I stepped back to admire my handiwork, I noticed the entire structure was lurching terribly. My foundation was not sure. One storm later, the building was near collapse. Lesson learned!

Jesus says the same thing about men. Every man is a builder, and his life is his construction project. Regardless of the life built by any man, the difference is always in the foundation. Men often spend more time, as I did, making sure the structure is just right while neglecting the foundation. You can build a mansion on a weak foundation only to see the whole thing go down. Every man builds, and every man experiences storms of life. The man who hears and does the Word of God builds a sure foundation.

DO THIS TODAY: Read God’s Word and act on it.
