Take A Break

And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. Mark 6:31

Ever been so busy you have forgotten to eat? Well, clearly you are not the first! It sounds like men from millennia past have had the same issue with a work-life balance that consumes them to the point it impacts their physical nourishment. And note this, they did not live in the technology age. God has set limits in space and time for this very reason. One is physical limits, but this is not our primary nourishment.

Most of us have moments we ignore our need for physical nourishment, but the pains of hunger eventually remind us to eat. On the hand, many men go days, weeks, or months without any spiritual food ignoring the pangs of our spiritual hunger. Richard Foster says it this way, “If our Adversary can keep us engaged in ‘muchness’ and ‘manyness,’ he will rest satisfied.”  This quote is startling only because it suggests we may not only be starving ourselves, but we might at the same time be nourishing the wrong thing.

DO THIS TODAY: Take a 15-minute break to be spiritually nourished.

PRAYER: God, the next 15-minutes is yours...
