Tell Yourself To Hope

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.—Hebrews 11:1

We don't often think about this, but there are times we need to preach the gospel to ourselves. Not to others, but our dejected spirit. And yes, there will be times of depression that may not respond to a personal pep talk that may need more serious counsel. But in the season we are in, all men are going to have downcast days. I do! These days are those in which more bads news suppresses the good news. And this can stifle the joy of faith and our assurance of hope. Sometimes we simply need to be preaching to ourselves and remind ourselves of the conviction we have in the unseen when it's not so much seen. That's precisely what the author is doing above to his audience—the Hebrew people.

DO THIS: Preach scriptural hope to yourself today—and live with future based conviction in sight.

PRAY THIS: God, I confess I have had some down days. Help me when hope wanes, and give me hope in you.
