The Mature Man
"When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways." 1 Corinthians 13:11
Some men have fond memories of their youth, while others do not, and because of this, we each make the journey into adulthood differently. For some, the process is sudden and for others, it happens more slowly. For some, it is an intentional process and for others, it might be accidental. Regardless, the charge of Paul in this verse is to grow up. While the culture has it's rites of passage into manhood, Paul's list is clear. He commands us to mature in how we speak, think, and reason. He infers that God's man is always maturing and giving up spiritual immature behavior. He challenges us to not settle for a youthful language, immature thinking, and childish reasoning. As our spiritual father, he tells us it is time to leave our boyish tendencies behind and grow up.
DO THIS: Give up your boyish ways, and grow up.
PRAYER: God, help me to see my boyish ways today and become the man you designed me to be.
