The Most Well-Known Verse In the Bible

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. — John 3:16

To really understand this verse, you must understand this one thing — we are perishing. You have to believe that and understand the despair of this one word. That's what John wants us to understand. But what does perishing mean? It implies brokenness, guilt, condemnation, sin, and death. This is a spiritual state of perishing. One of the many ways we see evidence of this is physical death. We die. Death is the sentence for sin if we turn back to the first pages of the bible. Thus physical death is one evidence of spiritual death.

But there is hope in this too.

God loved us.

He loved us in our despair, brokenness, condemnation, sin, guilt, and shame. He loved us so much that he gave us a gift. A gift that is available to all. The gift is Jesus. And this gift came at a great cost for God. And for humanity, the gift is relatively simple to receive. We just have to believe. And it is by believing in Jesus we can have freedom from everything that kills us daily. Guilt, sin, condemnation, brokenness, shame, and the like. And you can have that right now. And with it comes eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

If you are ready to believe, write this below:

I believe in Jesus and am ready to receive freedom from my sin and shame.

ASK THIS: Are you ready to believe?

DO THIS: Write this: I believe in Jesus and am ready to receive freedom from my sin and shame.

PRAY THIS: God, I believe Jesus is my Savior. From this day forward, he is the Lord of my life.

PLAY THIS: My Savior, My God.

For those of you who read this comment, please pray for me today. I lost my job at the beginning of December and I am emotionally struggling. I believe that God has a plan for me and I pray constantly that God will reveal this to me. Please pay for God to direct my next steps and to provide peace and hope in this time of uncertainty. Thank you for your prayers!

I have been a professing Christian for longer than I haven’t. I first said yes in High School thanks to my neighbor taking me to church with him and investing in my spiritual growth. Unfortunately for me, shortly after meeting my first Godly mentor, I was uprooted and moved from Colorado to Virginia, so I ended up falling away from God for MANY years, going from job to job, girlfriend to girlfriend, and finally finding my wife in the US Navy. When we met, our grandparents were at the end of their lives and we were able to comfort each other through our grief. Unfortunately for me, I was stubborn and it took another decade before life settled down enough that we were able to set down roots and find a home church, or 3, locally. I am now actively pursuing Him as close to daily as I can, I still fall short some days, but those days are few and far between, especially compared to the previous years where I was a professing Christian, but stuck in the repetitive sin of pornography addiction. I still struggle with lust, and probably will until my time on this side of Heaven is complete, but now I don’t act on those impulses anymore, I retrain my brain and renew my mind with Scripture instead because I KNOW I need Him to help me get past my own thoughts and past images that are still burned into my mind. Thank You God for providing a way out of sin, if we abide in You and are ACTIVELY looking for the way out. Amen.

This free gift has no string attached, but it call us to plug into His divine word, and grow in His wisdom, not the wisdom of the world. Find a bible teaching, bible centered church, and grow towards our Lord, and savior, you won’t regret it. Thanks Vince for your leadership in His word. Blessings for all, Jesus loves you!!

We not only have to believe but repent and submit

Chris Caliguire

I’m glad I scrolled to the bottom. Yes Tim, that gets so lost in our western world. I’ve heard a better translation should be “receive”. You receive and submit to his teachings. If our belief is not tied to the sanctification process, our works are dead. I see this in so many of my acquaintances it makes me sad. We need to tell others that this was written to a Jewish audience that, for the most part, was already doing what they knew to be best to obey God. Sending their children to Torah class, keeping sabbath, trying to amplify the law in order to please God. Now Jesus says, no, believe in me! I’m your anticipated messiah! America doesn’t try to do anything but say, I believe. Thankfully Vince and hopefully most of us, is a remnant that has a heart to work out our salvation. Keep praying, it is our only connection. I need to get back on track with that myself. I need to LOVE it like I used to!
