The Non-Retaliating Judge
When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.—1 Peter 2:23
Most of the time, when I am criticized and abused, I feel the only appropriate response is to return the favor. But not Jesus. He was reviled and did not revile in return. So why doesn't he do what I would do? Because he knows there is one who judges justly. And there is a day coming entrusted to him alone.
So today, when someone criticizes and abuses you, don't return the favor. Be stronger. Be bigger. Be God's man. Let God judge knowing he doesn't retaliate because he commands justice against all unrighteousness—and that's not retaliation.
ASK THIS: Do you want to retaliate?
DO THIS: Don't! Be like Jesus. Let God be the Judge.
PRAY THIS: God, remove my resentment for those who have reviled me. May their criticism, abuse, and unrighteousness be their own judgment.
