The One Job Of A President

ENGLISH

If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked. The poor man and the oppressor meet together; the Lord gives light to the eyes of both. If a king faithfully judges the poor, his throne will be established forever. — Proverbs 29:12-14

The rulers, kings, and presidents of our day disappoint us, don't they?

They disappoint us because they're corrupt and are subject to corrupt counsel all day long. Add to this that we elect them out of a selfish bias. A bias that favors ourselves. We won't always admit it, but when we vote, we are really voting for ourselves. We vote for the things we want, just like every other man. And herein lies the problem — sinful men select a sinful man to lead them out of selfish desires. Insidious, is it not?

But there is a saving grace. Romans 13:1 reads:

For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. — Romans 13:1

We are reminded in this verse that while men do wicked, evil, and selfish things and select wicked, evil, and selfish men to lead them, God can still intervene. Sinful man cannot stop an unstoppable God. And by his grace, he selects the ruler, king, and president and gives him authority. And this leader with this authority has only one job. Just one. To mediate justice. He must keep himself pure and purge his house of unrighteousness. That's it. And if he does this, he will be established forever. If not, the house comes crumbling down. This is certain. So don't fret about the unjust leaders in our world. God's got that. He will deal with them each.

In the meantime, be concerned about yourself. Consider a question — what do you need to purge from your life today? What wickedness have you allowed into your life and home that you need to be rid of? Purge-it. Mediate it justly. And be established forever.

    APE
    Anger, pride & ego.

Passivity and apathy are the more insidious ones that if left unchecked, take me down the wide and easy road that leads to nowhere.

  3. Eddie Ackerman says:

anger needs to be purged from myself and the rest of my house.
I also recommend again that we do Ephesians and dive deep on the armor of God and how to treat our families.

Thank you Vince for the daily devotional. Proverbs has been great. Any book from the New Testament would be relevant to the current situation. How about Philippians.

  5. Chaplain JMan says:

I need to purge passivity from my daily life. Especially when it comes to spreading the word to non- believers.

    • CJB says:

Thanks Cory. Good call. The obvious ones are easy. Anger, lust, judging… it’s the more insidious ones like apathy and passivity that go unrecognized and lead us down the wide and easy road.

  11. Tom F. Sr. says:

Pastor Vince, Thanks for the great reminders over the past few days. Although we know that God’s Divine justice will both prevail and rule through Jesus Christ one day, these reminders keep us looking up (Colossians 3) and focused on the Author & Perfecter of our faith. (Hebrews 12). I suggest 2 Timothy, Paul’s departing words to his spiritual son. Blessings! 🙏🙏

1 Peter is a great book with lots of food for thought, giving us godly direction.

    • Trent says:

Amen. Me too. I will pray for us both in this area. James 1:19-20 “Wherefore my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath. For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.” This is one I meditate on. Lord grant Chuck and I, and all your children, peace in this world and patience with our fellow men. Help us to live, act, and react in a Christlike manner that all may see your love and light in us. Today and always. Amen.

  12. Bill says:

    1st & 2nd Timothy.
It’s hard to single out any of God’s Word it is all bound together by Holy Spirit to lead us in righteousness.
