The Sinning Tongue

"I will guard my ways, that I may not sin with my tongue. I will guard my mouth with a muzzle." —Psalm 39:1

Of course, you know it is not your "tongue" that causes sins—it's your heart. Your tongue inflicts the suffering from sin that has been lurching in your heart. Your heart experiences pain, and then your mind plans a defense, and finally, your mouth speaks. And sometimes the things we feel, think, and say have powerful implications on the people around us, resulting in suffering. Many times the suffering is an issue of ineffective "guarding." So today instead of allowing your heart, mind, and tongue run freely maybe it's time to put "a muzzle" on it.

DO THIS: Keep the reigns on your tongue.

PRAYER: God, may I be keenly aware today of the implications of the words I speak.
