The Unity We Need
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.—Ephesians 4:1-2
We need unity in God's church. This was Paul's urging to the church in his time, and it's what we want in our church in our time. It may seem idealistic, but we should be eager for it. So if you desire this, it's good. But we strive not for unity of human opinions, it's the unity of the Spirit, and in this, we will discover a bond of peace. And the way we participate in this unity is by living worthy and demonstrating Christian virtue—humility, gentleness, patience, and love. So if you want biblical unity, then join me in bearing with another brother today.
ASK THIS: Who needs you to bear with them today?
DO THIS: What virtue is needed on your part?
PRAY THIS: God, strengthen my heart for the tasks and challenges I will face today. Please help me to bear with others today, as your Son bore up under the cross for me.
PLAY THIS: Matt Maher: All The People Said Amen.
