The Worsening

...while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.—2 Timothy 3:13

People have asked me many times in the last year if I think our present circumstances will worsen. And I think these words by Paul say it all. Of course, it will worsen! And this might dash our hopes of cultural reformation. In fact, Paul does not declare a cultural reformation but a cultural disaster resulting from wicked frauds that progressively worsen because they are stuck in a cycle of calculated self-deception.

But to some degree, we are all susceptive to self-deception. This happens when we blindly accept what we believe to be the truth and allow it to go unchecked, thus maturing into ideas that are in direct competition with God's Word. This now biased ideology becomes a truth that takes the place of God's truth. This is why truth is harder to come by today. I also think this is why so many of us are tired. We are not only tired of the deception, but we are now working overtime to find the truth. We have to think more mindfully, speak more accurately, act more cautiously, and search the scriptures more precisely.

But this will be the case for now. So proceed with caution, my friends. And ask God to reveal your deception and then watch how you think, speak, and act as you go throughout your day.

ASK THIS: What deception has God recently revealed to you?

DO THIS: Share this deception below if you dare! (Share it in the comments below.)

PRAY THIS: God, reveal the deception in our world. Reveal the progress of evil. And then keep me far from it.

PLAY THIS: Matthew West. Truth Be Told.

Not really a new deception but one that bothers me is wolves within the flock. Having to have a spirit that is discerning with in our congregations, but not being judgmental of one another.

  2. Dennis says:

    1 John 4:1 ESV
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

  3. Sean Henry says:

I’m preparing now to go full force in my calling to be a missionary. Last week was last day as I resigned from my job. Mission trip to Tanzania lined up in two months time now.
Satan is deceiving me to make me think my body is weaker than it is making it harder to truly pray.
He is also deceiving some of those close to me to make them weaker and more distant to me.
As I get closer to God’s true calling for me, I can feel the attacks of Satan getting stronger.
But He who is in us is greater then he who is in the world.
Satan’s attacks are going to ramp up, but my God is stronger!

    • Dennis says:

      Sean Henry,
The enemy is working full force on those who are stepping up to serve. I pray that you stand firm and strong and know that God has your six. I am praying for you.

  4. Eddie Ackerman says:

anger is a sin. being angry is not a sin, ACTING in anger in order to intentionally hurt someone is the sin. Even Jesus became angry and acted out righteous judgement a few times in the New Testament, even turning over tables and chasing out people that were defiling the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Let’s be honest though brothers in Christ, we are probably not going to be in similar situations, and we are NOT Jesus, but acting properly with righteous anger matters, failing to act when you should is just as unhelpful as acting wrongly for the right reasons. use discernment and prayer when tempted to act out of anger, and use the cliche, WWJD? (what would Jesus Do?)

The deception when I desire & seek admiration & love from others instead of accepting the constant love from my heavenly Father.

I just received favorable information from my lawyer regarding my dispute with my co-writer. I pray that the Lord guides me in the direction to go with my new found leverage and NOT take advantage of the situation. I continue to pray for Dan’s heavy heart to be lifted. Amen

He has revealed the deception of pride to me – boasting, arrogance, hype, false airs just to make myself feel better and to keep up with others.

  8. Cory B says:

I am who you say I am. NO, I am who HE says I am.

When I deceive myself and my true desires and intentions don’t align with HIS will.

  9. Rich Thomas says:

That I need to “keep up with the Jones’s”. What I need is to seek first the kingdom of God.

God I ask that you keep me focused on your word the “truth” and not the deception of the world we live in

  10. Mark says:

That to grow and contribute as a man I have to push and focus on getting a bigger business, bigger bank account, bigger profile. But what about growth and contribution in the Kingdom, from God’s perspective?

  11. Steve George says:

The deception that we dont need salvation, we just need a little help. That we don’t need the gospel, we just need some good advice and that more money is the answer to all our problems.
