So that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.—Ephesians 4:14
This is Paul's very polite way of saying, "It's time to grow up, fellas." He declares this out of concern for their faith. His concern is that the turmoil in the world will cause some to drift. To drift toward a wind of doctrine that is not doctrine at all. And what's dangerous about this wave is that it's cunning and crafty but not divine—it's human. It's human ingenuity that is born from deceitful scheming and carries us away like unsuspecting children.
Gentlemen, this is the time in which we live. Are you being tossed? Are you being carried away? Get anchored in the good doctrine today, and stop letting people carry you away with fear and emotions arising from human craftiness.
ASK THIS: What deceit is carrying me away from God?
DO THIS: Anchor yourself in the truth that's divine.
PRAY THIS: God, renew my wayward heart. Relieve my fears of the looming storm. Set my eyes and ears only to you. Anchor me in the truth. Guide me through the waves and winds of the present storm.
PLAY THIS: Casting Crowns: Praise You In This Storm
