What's My Calling?
And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”—Matthew 4:19
People often ask me how they can determine their calling. It's one of the great questions that every man asks. We ask this question through almost every stage and phase of life. We ask this disturbing question because it disturbs us. Like the screeching of worn brake pads, the noise will not cease until the problem is addressed. But the issue is that we are asking the wrong question. It's not a calling we are pursuing; it's a "following." A "following" of Christ that our personal passions, positions, or power leaves unfulfilled. And yet, in "following," we discover a calling. A calling to be made into something new by Christ. A repurposing of former passions, positions, and power for his purposes. A calling for Christ and not for self. So, if you want to discover your calling, then start following.
DO THIS: Stop fixating on your calling, start "following," which reveals His calling.
PRAYER: God, help me to more obediently follow you and show me how to leverage my following for you.
