When The Spirit Falls

When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. — Acts 2:1-4

This event was one of extraordinary power. The people heard something powerful. They saw something powerful. And they spoke something powerful.

You know, at many points in Christian history, there has been an infusion of spiritual power that has intentionally advanced the message of Christ. This moment in Acts 2 just happened to be the first of many that would follow.

But this was always God's plan.

You see, Pentecost was a celebration established hundreds of years before the writing of Acts 2. It had a rich history in the movement of God. It was one of three special feast days on the Jewish calendar. In order, they were — Pesach (Feast of Passover), Shavuot (Feast of Pentecost), and Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles). On these dates, Jews would make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem to celebrate. They celebrated special events in history accomplished by God for his people. For example, Passover celebrates the Exodus from Egypt. Pentecost celebrates the Law given on Mt. Sinai. Tabernacles celebrates the Wanderings in the Wilderness. But each of these celebrations also had some natural signification. For example, Pentecost, the celebration here, fell on the harvest season and therefore had another title — The Feast of Harvests. This was because it was celebrated when the harvest was taking place.

So on this date in history, followers were making a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. The city was packed with people just like it was at Passover just 50 days prior when Jesus was crucified. But now, the land was rich, and the harvest was in season. And on this day, the Spirit fell upon believers. A new harvest begins. It's a spiritual harvest. One where the Spirit comes, the message is heard, and people respond in the thousands. And followers testify to this, and a movement spreads across the world. It's an unstoppable spiritual harvest leading people to a message of salvation.

We should be praying for this to happen in our time. Each generation has had its outpouring. A time of fresh revival. Moments where a generation is infused with a fresh wind and fresh fire. A spiritual movement of extraordinary power that draws attention to God and his message. Are you praying? Are you with me? Let's pray together that God's Spirit will fall upon the world again.

I do agree with all of the ideas you’ve presented on your post. They’re really convincing and will definitely work. Nonetheless, the posts are very short for beginners. May just you please prolong them a little from next time? Thank you for the post.

  2. Dennis James says:

Father God, will You forgive your church for looking away from You and please bring an out pouring of the Holy Spirit upon Your church? Lord, please plant the desire for revival into the hearts of each and every believer bringing them to an attitude of repentance seeking forgiveness for our sins, God, I know that in order for revival we must first seek Your forgiveness of our sins and repent, then and only then will revival come. Forgive me Lord for any and all sin and cleanse me with the washing of Your Word as I humbly seek Your face. In Jesus Name. Amen,

Our hearts are not full Father. We come before you in prayer. Our hearts are seeking more. Our hearts are still lacking in being fully humbled. God we need more food for our Souls. Help us to find the right way. Though it maybe obedience, or kindness or gentleness or even Love, we are not fulfilled to overflowing. God we come every day seeking your Love and your Grace. You share all with us but we find we still lack. God the steps are small, but we ask that you help our steps to be many. Let our tears flow into our hearts. Let our soul be more of righteousness. God we are deprived of all you give by our own making. Shield us from this deconstruction of our hearts. Let us find the building blocks of your will. We bow in weakness and seek your best. Our Cries are strong. Our faith is building. Our needs are many. Shower us in all of your Goodness. We find you so very caring. Our Father who art in Heaven. Hollowed be they Name. Our Kingdom come. Lord help us to finish this prayer. Thank you and may you be our strength. In the Name of Jesus Christ, AMEN.

God, may a fresh wave of believers see, hear, and feel the power of the Holy Spirit descend on them as in the day of Pentecost after the resurrection of Jesus. Amen.

Yes Lord, would you bring an awakening – specifically would you bring an awakening among men? I pray today with my brothers that men of God would ‘rise up’, would have ‘done with lesser things, will give ‘heart and soul and mind and strength to serve the King of kings’. Do it Lord! May men of God be All In. Amen
