When You Fail

“More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." Romans 5:3-5

Yep, you've done it again. You've failed. At least you feel that way. And if you're like most men you spend a lot of time privately shaming yourself about this sense of failure. You know the right thing to do is to get back up on the horse you fell off and do it again, but in the quietness of your mind, you hear the self-talk of regret, defeat, and disappointment. Maybe the words of Bob Newhart will help break up this insane cycle, "Stop It!" (click here for the video).

For a moment notice all the blessings in the text that come from failure. "Endurance" that will help you build strength and spiritual muscle. "Character" that increases mental and moral strength for future challenges. "Hope" that builds an expectation for something new and better. Perhaps part of the challenge you face only seeing the negative and not the positive? And this is why the writer above says, "rejoice in your sufferings." You've got a lot to look forward to today. Don't listen to the negative self-talk, hear the truth, "God's loves you."

DO THIS: Think positive.

PRAYER: God, may I not listen to the voice of failure. You are my victory and may I see the gain in my failures.
