Who You Hanging With

ENGLISH

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. — Proverbs 13:20

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” — 1 Corinthians 15:33

These two verses represent a law often ignored. The people that surround us have an impact on our thoughts, attitudes, and actions. For example, if you spend time with a generous man, his generosity will inspire you to do the same. On the contrary, if you spend time with a greedy man, you too will be persuaded by his greed to be greedy. It is inevitable! We are influenced by those we spend time with.

This means we have to be attentive to how we spend our time and who we spend it with. This was true in my youth and is still true today.

So consider this: be intentional with the people you spend time with this week.

Spend time with people that inspire you to be a better man, husband, father, and leader. And then watch what happens. Take these people out for a coffee, buy them lunch, and then pick their brains in areas you need guidance and growth. Talk with them about something spiritual, and then consult the Scriptures with them. And then discover what it means to be wise by walking with the wise.

ASK THIS: Who is someone who has wisdom you need?

DO THIS: Spend time then and grow in wisdom. (Share below who this might be.)

PRAY THIS: God, remove bad company and foolish people from my life. Bring across my path wise Christians that I might be wiser.

PLAY THIS: God, I Look To You.

In my arrogance it is difficult for me to rely on anyone for wisdom, it is a tru flay and sin and i am working on it, God help me.

I need to reconnect with my dad, I haven’t done that in a while, and I know he would like that too.

Eddie. I am looking back through devotions that have been impactful for me. I am praying for you and your desire to reconnect with your Dad. I hope that has been going well.

Hey guys, I desparetely need wisdom/advice from God regarding a job decision. I know God is not like a genie where we just rub the lamp and He comes out 🙂 I realise I need to seek His face, and His timing is perfect… But to get back to today’s devo, I’m in Ireland in the countryside, where there aren’t many likeminded Christians, and with the whole COVID situation, I just find it difficult to 1) find someone who I can look up to as a mentor, leader, father, etc. 2) if I find someone like that, practically how to spend time with that person… What advice would you guys give folks with similar frustrations?
    God bless!

      Ettiene,
I am praying for your job decision right now. And believing that God will provide you direction with clarity even today!

ADVICE: I would find one Christian man who has one spiritual quality that you might like to have in your own life. And then buy him lunch or coffee and pick his brain on how he does it. Maybe do this 2-3 times until you have exhausted the needed information and then compare it to God’s Word. Then repeat this regarding another area of your life with someone else. Do this until you find that one right relationship that really sticks. Does this make sense?

      Ettiene!
Awesome to know you have already been blessed with wisdom and seek more!
My grandfather was Irish and last name was Rice.
The person you are looking for, you already know! He has already touched you and brought you thus far. His name is Jesus. Please seek Him and accept Him as a friend. The wisdom to seek He has provided us through our Father already. God is the Father you are looking for. You are to seek Him and not an Earthly being. He is with you at all times!! There is no place where you may strike up a conversation and pray for wisdom, guidance and even ask Him to be with you. Would you enjoy someone that respects you and looks up to you and be asking you to be with them? How awesome of a feeling is that? I’m certain it’s fantastically awesome!!
My mother left my abusive alcoholic earthly father when I was a toddler. Her middle name was Grace and I grew to understand why she was given that name at birth. The one thing she instilled in me was to pray for wisdom, “You have to pray for wisdom,” is what I remember most of all that she ever told me. Her favorite Bible verse that I discovered she had written after she left Earth is, “The Lord is good and His mercy endureth forever.” Thus it is now written also on her stone.
The Lord has never failed me even though I have failed Him time and again. I’m certainly most sorry for each time I have ever let Him down. He still brings peace, courage and strength when I need it and need it most!
Seek Him as your Father and you will find all that is good! Amen!!!
Ettiene, pray for wisdom from God, ask Him not only that you see or hear what He is showing or telling you but that you have the wisdom to understand. Amen!!!
      Good bless you Ettiene!!!
