Word Matters
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits."—Proverbs 18:21
I like you have been cut deeply by words. Words spoken by family members, friends, and colleagues who have intentionally sought to tear me down. The pain of these moments still linger and what's interesting is they do not know it. They may not even remember the arguments, phrases, conversations, emotions, and moments—but I do. Recalling them now brings these dreaded moments back in high definition.
But I can also recall moments a person's words have lifted me. Phrases like "You can do it," "We are in this together," "I believe in you," "You killed it," and "When you said this it changed my life forever."
With our mouths, we possess "power." The power for "death and life." Use your words with care today you never know when you too might create a lasting vivid memory for someone else that remains with them forever.
DO THIS: Speak power into someone's life.
PRAYER: God, help me to steward my words today in a way that lifts people and gives them encouragement and hope for their day.
